If you’re going to open your device with iFixit’s Pro Tech Toolkit, the company’s Magnetic Project Mat ($13-$20) might be a nice companion. A seemingly simple board divided into a four by five grid, the mat allows you to keep all of the pieces and parts organized as they’re separated, holding each in place with a large flat magnetic base underneath the glossy surface.
Included with the set is an erasable pen for labeling all of the components on the mat as you work. The more expensive Pro version of Magnetic Project Mat adds a foam base.
