Users looking for a no-frills way of protecting an iPad, iPad 2, or iPad (3rd-Gen) have a relatively new option in iFrogz’ NeoFirm Burst ($25). A simple, vertically-oriented neoprene sleeve, this case has a reinforced back and adds some extra protection without bulk. Although the company’s website shows that the top flap can be left hanging out, we’re naturally inclined to tuck it in for safety, keeping the iPad inside. All of the variations of the case have the same gray back with a large imprint of the company’s frog logo, while the front can be had in black, fuchsia, green, blue, or red with a pattern of dots along the left side.

NeoFirm Burst’s design won’t fly in the business professional world, but it’s a good, inexpensive solution for younger iPad users—and those who have a predilection for amphibians. The fact that it can hold any current or past iPad—including the most recent generations with a Smart Cover attached—makes it that much more valuable, and likely future-proofs it as well. It also feels more protective than many options we’ve come across, which often use less padded materials. Unfortunately, it doesn’t have any other features such as stand functionality. Aesthetically, it’s not our favorite iPad sleeve ever, but it’s hard to overlook its reasonable price. It’s worthy of a general recommendation.
