Originally announced in late 2010 and released only a little before Apple debuted the iPad 2, IK Multimedia’s iKlip ($40) is a universal microphone stand mount for the original iPad — a hard plastic frame that you assemble with a screwdriver and several included pieces. iKlip holds only a completely bare original iPad, which slides into the spider-like frame and has full control and port access therein; you can loosen the silver screw to enable the iPad to be turned to portrait or landscape as needed, then tighten the screw to lock it into one or the other position. A thumbknob behind the iPad can be turned to unlocked or locked positions, permitting angle adjustment of the iPad, while another thumbknob helps a tube-shaped piece of iKlip to grip whichever microphone stand you provide. The plastic’s very sturdy, matte-finished, and easily capable of turning an iPad into a musical performance accessory for musicians, lacking only for easier rotation of the iPad in mid-use, and support for cases. An updated version is planned with iPad 2 support.
