Inspired Instruments’ You Rock Guitar ($200) is a USB- or four AA battery-powered electronic guitar with a few interesting features. Bundled with analog and digital connection cables, it can be used with iPads via USB solely if you already own the iPad Camera Connection Kit, Apogee’s JAM, or the IK Multimedia iRig.
MIDI and USB features are built in for use with computer-based recording software, as well. In addition to the strings, whammy bar, and guitar effects one would expect, You Rock Guitar includes a synthesizer for additional non-guitar sounds — drum tracks and synth sounds — plus an integrated joystick, game control buttons, and features that enable it to be used with game consoles.
