Though our eyes very nearly glazed over at the sight of what initially appeared to be “yet another iPad folio-style case,” iSkin’s Aura ($120) managed to surprise us with little design elements that make a bigger impact in person — and on close inspection — than in photos. On the outside is an intriguing combination of a colored, brushed metallic fabric with contrasting nylon materials, while the inside is lined with microfiber and a circular-patterned faux leather that resembles the look of iSkin’s recent plastic cases. The case opens and shuts with metal snaps, using a novel double rear hinge system to fold open as needed for video viewing or typing purposes. Expensive by iPad folio standards, it’s a sharper design than one would initially expect, benefitting from typical iSkin attention to detail and packaged with dry and moist screen cleaning cloths. Three color combinations are available.
