iSkin’s Revo lineup has been on autopilot for the past several years, as the company essentially perfected the art of two-tone, finely detailed silicone case manufacturing long ago; new versions were mostly just a matter of tweaking the positions of holes and changing the curves around the corners. Revo4 Special Edition (aka Revo4 SE, $45) offers the first new feature we’ve seen in some time, adapting iSkin’s detachable hard plastic screen protector with a swipe-friendly panel that lets you unlock the iPhone 4 without removing the shield, useful for people who need to make volume adjustments or answer phone calls without using the rest of the screen or an in-line remote control. The slightly rubbery but clear swipe panel works exactly as expected, though the Special Edition’s screen protector is notably tinted and touch-obstructing everywhere except for the rounded rectangular box, so you’ll really want to pull the protector off and pop it onto the case’s back for everything but the most basic access to the device. Other features, such as an integrated Home Button protector and tightly tailored headphone, camera, and Dock Connector holes remain the same from the original Revo4, while the ringer switch hole is large enough for both GSM and CDMA iPhone 4 models. Only one color combination, red and black, is available in Special Edition form.
