Though we wanted to be excited about Joby’s new Gorillamobile for iPhone 4 ($40), the company’s latest versatile camera mounting system for an Apple device, another unexpected little implementation problem popped up in this year’s version.
Joby previously released iPhone and iPod touch versions of this mount with shell-like cases that were underdesigned, and this year unfortunately chose Apple’s not-so-great Bumper as the inspiration for a more elaborate device protector — we say “unfortunately” because while Joby’s version has the same metallic button guards Apple used, the shell is even harder than the Bumper, less accessory-tolerant, and tore off the screen protector we had installed on our iPhone 4.
Made from hard plastic, the semi-case slides into a mount on Gorillamobile’s top, which can also be used with an included screw-based mini-mount for digital cameras.
