There have been plenty of rugged, protective iPhone cases over the years, but few are quite as hardcore as Lunatik’s new Taktik 360 ($120). Taktik 360 provides full coverage of an iPhone 6/6s, and IP68 waterproof, dustproof protection. Lunatik claims the case can be submersed in two meters of water for up to one hour. Drop and impact protection almost goes without saying in this bulky case — Lunatik says the case endured drop testing above 4 feet. The front is protected by a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass, and a clear membrane covers the touch ID. The entire case is actually locked into place with a small key. A headphone port extender is also included in the package.

Those users interested in Taktik 360 probably won’t be put off by this, but the case certainly is bulky. An iPhone 6s with Taktik 360 becomes thicker, wider, and heavier than an iPhone 6s Plus with a standard case. Installation wasn’t nearly as bad as we expected, even with the locking mechanism in back. Button coverage is obviously present, but it’ll take a bit more oomph than usual to work the volume controls and sleep/wake button on this thick case. The ringer switch is controlled by a knob, and the bottom ports are easily sealed and unsealed through the use of one stainless steel latch.
Taktik 360 was “designed to be indestructible,” and while we’re not going to throw it off the top of a building, it certainly feels like it will hold up to anything you’ll encounter. For most users, this sort of protection is excessive. But we admire how Lunatik just went for it. Taktik 360 is an expensive behemoth, but it’s well-made and should be popular among its limited audience. Limited also describes our recommendation for the case.
