First Look: Macally IP-HDMI HDMI Audio/Video Adapter for iPod, iPhone & iPad

Updated

Normally, Macally offers inexpensive alternatives to products developed by other companies — with IP-HDMI ($70, aka HDMI Audio/Video Adapter), it’s trying something different. IP-HDMI is a plastic, iPhone 4-matching accessory that connects to any iPad, iPhone, iPod touch, or video-capable iPod nano, performing its video at up to 576p resolution — a spec that suggests differences between IP-HDMI’s output and that of Apple’s Digital AV Adapter. Whereas Apple ships its Adapter threadbare, however, Macally includes a wall adapter and a mini-HDMI to full-sized HDMI cable in the package, so you’ll have everything you need to charge your iPad, iPhone, or iPod while watching it on your HDMI-equipped HDTV. We’ll test this soon to see how its power and video output match up to other accessories.
