First Look: Marware ConvertibleShell for iPad

Updated

As a welcome change from the company’s lengthy list of sleeve and folio-styled iPad cases, Marware’s ConvertibleShell for iPad ($60) is a hard plastic shell with the ability to transform into a video stand, keyboard stand, or a hand grip-supported case as you see fit. The core of the case is a hybrid of clear and opaque black plastics, the latter with four corner pieces that pop out as needed for video and keyboard purposes; a rubber hand strap is included and can slide into strategically placed grooves to give your hand support on any vertical or horizontal orientation. No screen protection is included. Oddly, ConvertibleShell’s instructions reference an additional replacement black piece that can be substituted for the clear plastic, but neither of our review samples actually included that part. Marware’s web site references a nearly identical product called SportShell Convertible that appears to include that part for the same $60 price.
