Outdoor Technology’s Kodiak Plus Waterproof Powerbank ($100) is a rugged 10000 mAh battery with dual outputs — one 1A output and one 2.4A output for charging an iPad at full speed. The battery pack has a seal on top to protect the outputs and micro-USB input. Once properly sealed, the iPX7 waterproof pack is submersible up to 3 feet for 30 minutes. A shock-absorbing layer of silicone covers the battery for drop protection. A power button with LED indicator can be accessed whether the seal is on or off. Kodiak Plus includes a short micro-USB cable for recharging the battery, and it comes in blue, red, green, black, or the camo version you see here.

Kodiak Plus is a bit larger than an iPhone 6 — it’s about the same width as an iPhone 6 Plus, but shorter (and thicker). It’s also only 10.89 ounces, which is light enough to make it pocketable without being too much of a hinderance. In our test, Kodiak Plus fully recharged an iPad Air 2 lightning-fast using the 2.4A output, doing so in slightly more than 3 hours — that’s a faster time than we got recharging an iPad Air 2 with its included adapter — while still leaving a bit of battery power left over. The dual outputs are listed separately, so the battery can charge two devices simultaneously at the advertised speeds. When not using the battery, it’s not much trouble to push down the silicone seal to protect Kodiak Plus’ ports from water and dust.
Kodiak Plus is one of the better standalone batteries we’ve seen in some time. It’s tough, dustproof, waterproof, fast-charging, and offers a large capacity in a nice soft-touch pack. An included Lightning cable or a slightly lower price would have really put Kodiak Plus over the top, but as is, it’s still one of the best options out there for users in search of a rugged high-capacity battery. Kodiak Plus comes highly recommended.
