Given Ozaki’s recent track record, the most notable thing about the company’s new iCoat Anti-Glare & Fingerprint+ Screen Protector for iPad 2 ($26) isn’t the product itself, but rather the packaging. Previous versions of the protective film seriously angered us by arriving in hard plastic and metal boxes that looked as if they cost more than the product itself, resulting in the disposal of packaging that was more valuable than what was being purchased.
In response to our concerns, Ozaki changed the packaging dramatically, shifting from the plastic and metal box to a more industry standard and environmentally friendly cardboard and plastic envelope. As for the film itself, while the fit is perfect, the finish is much like a number of other, relatively inexpensive anti-glare options: it creates a noticeable prismatic effect and blurs the screen to a degree, while adding a little bit of drag to swipe gestures.
Included in the packaging is a single piece of film and one microfiber cloth, but there’s no squeegee or other bubble removing tool, somewhat of a surprise given the relatively high price.
