Though we’ve seen dozens of film screen protectors for the iPhone and iPods in the past, U.K.-based PhoneDevil’s lineup is interesting for one primary reason: the so-called Privacy Edition ($17) is a properly cut piece of 3M privacy film that prevents your iPhone’s screen from being entirely readable from its sides, creating a lenticular dimming effect from the left and right. We weren’t totally impressed by the included applicator card, which doesn’t do a great job of helping to remove air bubbles that naturally wind up under the film after initial application, but the film is nicely tailored and does mostly what it’s supposed to do. The packaging claims that the screen is “not visible” at off angles, which is true assuming that you’re at a sharply off angle and holding the phone vertically; it is, however, only two-way privacy film and doesn’t really help much when the device is in widescreen mode. Clear ($9) and Mirror ($12) versions are also available.
