QuickTip™ Tip Calculator ($1) from Spare Change Software is an extremely simple one-screen tip application with a field to enter the bill amount, a slider to change the tip percentage, and a reset button at the top. Once the amount has been entered, buttons appear at the bottom for rounding the total up or down. A menu in the iPhone’s Settings app allows for setting of the default tip percentage, as well as a toggle to turn tax on and off and set the amount. As the name suggests, it appears QuickTip was optimized for speed, but in doing so it left out some important features such as manual entry of tip percentage, check splitting, multiple currency support, and a well-designed interface. As a free application, QuickTip might have a fighting chance, but it is outclassed by many of its $1 peers, and falls well short of our recommendation. iLounge Rating: D.
