It’s an incredibly straight forward cable: one end has a female USB port, the other a male plug. You can connect your Apple USB to Dock Connector cable to it for longer-distance charging and syncing; it can obviously be used with any other USB cable, too.
While the extension shouldn’t impact iPod or iPhone charging, full-speed iPad charging may slow down a little.
