Shipped with three sets of colored rubber accent inserts to let you customize its looks, Scosche’s KickBack ($30) is an otherwise familiar clear case that can be used with either a rear video stand shell or one that’s identically contoured, minus the stand. A screen protector and plastic case opening “removal key” are included in the package.
Four colors — clear, smoke, pink, and orange — are available.
Though it has certain stylistic touches that set it apart visually from the pure generic hard cases out there, KickBack is the opposite of a fancy, sexy case, relying instead on those mini color changes and the optional rear video stand to distinguish it from the pack. We’re much bigger fans of earlier, less expensive DLO VideoShell designs on integrated video stand functionality, but Scosche’s approach works; its rubber inserts similarly do what they’re supposed to do but don’t look that hot to our eyes.
For the price, KickBack strikes us as a better than average offering given that you have the choice of the two rear shells and the colored parts, which may please some users, but the completely open top, bottom, and side buttons could have been handled better, and the heavily line-adorned look is only a little better than okay.
