We were wondering how screen protector films would impact the new iPad’s ultra-high resolution screen, and what if anything film makers would do to prevent issues. We’ve now received our first sets of film specifically marketed towards new iPad users, Simplism’s Bubble-less Film ($20) and Protector Film ($10), both of which are available in either anti-glare or crystal finishes. Packed in with each is a cleaning cloth, dust-removing tape, and an air bubble-removing card; Protector’s is larger than Bubble-less’s, as it’s easier to make bubbles disappear from the latter version. The big difference between the two is the silicone coating on the adhesive side of Bubble-less, meant to prevent air bubbles from forming underneath the surface. We’ve had a chance to install both anti-glare films, and there’s a definite prismatic effect on both, creating tiny rainbows that are visible all over the screen. We’ll be doing further evaluation, but our first instinct is that these films don’t do the new iPad’s screen justice, and we’ve wanted to remove them rather than keep them on.
