Speck’s StyleFolio ($35) has returned for iPad mini 4. Last seen for iPad Air 2, the well-priced case offers a front cover with inner notches that can be used for different viewing angles. StyleFolio is mostly made of plastic, with a soft inner lining and a folding vegan leather cover. A plastic clasp keeps the cover shut — but the cover does not activate the iPad’s sleep/wake function. The case comes in a variety of colors and patterns.

The fit on StyleFolio is secure, but still a bit strange. The iPad is housed toward the front of the hard shell, with the plastic adding more bulk than we’d like. This thickness also leads to a weird feel when using the volume controls. There’s also virtually no lip surrounding the screen to protect the device during a drop. All of the buttons and ports match up fine, though the speakers are vented out through the front of the case — some users may appreciate this more than others.
Overall, StyleFolio is a good case for iPad mini 4. It’s well-constructed and certainly affordable, and the cover offers a number of sturdy viewing angles. However, though the fit works, it feels a bit odd — as before, StyleFolio seems thicker than it needs to be, and we wish there was a larger lip around the display. The case earns our general recommendation.
