STM makes some of the best iPad-specific bags we’ve come across, and its new Stash Shoulder Bag for iPad + iPad 2 ($55) lives up to the company’s reputation. Made of high-quality, water-resistant ripstop polyester, this portrait orientation carrier looks and feels very nice. More importantly, it’s a practical option with plenty of space for your iPad and the accessories that go along with it. The bag can be carried one of two ways: there’s a detachable shoulder strap, and there are also handles along the top edge that can be tucked in when they’re not being used.
Stash is available in red and black.
This bag has one major strength: plenty of pockets. In addition to the main cavity for the tablet itself—with enough room for most cases as well—there are nine other pockets of varying sizes. The standard accessories many people carry with an iPad, including a charger and stylus, fit with room to spare. A keyboard fits in the rear pocket, although it does jut out a few inches.
Despite having so much available space, Stash is slim and easy to pack away while traveling.
Unlike other bags we have seen from STM, the pad along the shoulder strap isn’t very well-padded. This may be acceptable for many people, as the bag won’t weigh as much as most computer bags do when fully packed, but others may miss the more cushioned feel; it feels a bit more utilitarian than luxurious.
Overall, STM has proved once again that it understands how to combine nice materials and good ideas into a great bag. While the price is a little on the high side relative to the value offered by other STM iPad bags, it’s not terrible.
