Not quite a case and not exactly a typical stand, TabGrip ($50) is a cross-shaped plastic and rubber accessory designed to enhance the original 2010 iPad in several ways. After installing it edge by edge on all four of the iPad’s sides using tension provided by the rubber cross and plastic sides, you’ll find four handgrips that can be used to provide more support when holding the device in landscape or portrait orientations, as well as four flip-out stands that can be used two at a time to position the screen in typing positions or in upright video/photo-ready orientations as you desire. The top and bottom grips each have a hole in their cores to allow connection of a Dock Connector cable, so TabGrip can be installed in either direction. While the protection offered by this accessory is modest, exposing far more of the iPad’s surface than it covers, its elevation of the iPad over flat surfaces can reduce scratching.
