Tech Armor’s FlexProtect ($13) and Shock Flex ($18) are cases for iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus that show just how far the market has come over the years. Both FlexProtect and Shock Flex are polycarbonate/TPU cases which offer proper cutouts and responsive button coverage. FlexProtect is a clear case, while Shock Flex has a frosted back with a honeycomb pattern — other than its back, the case also has slightly more cushion on its darker edges. But both cases are lightweight, and (unfortunately) both cases have the awkward rear cutout to show off the iPhone’s Apple logo.

Not every iPhone case is a winner, but the odds are far more likely these days that you’ll be able to pick a very good case at random. Tech Armor has made two completely reasonable cases here, and while we prefer the slightly sturdier feel of Shock Flex, FlexProtect is no slouch, especially for $13. Both are very affordable, and worthy of a strong general recommendation.
We don’t blame anyone for sticking with a more highly-regarded brand, even if it means paying more for an iPhone case. But this is just one example of a lesser-known company making a very good iPhone case, and it’s far from a rare occurrence. Perhaps that will change in the future if case makers have to adjust to a dramatic iPhone redesign. But for now — especially when considering the 4.7” and 5.5” iPhones have been about the same size for three cycles now — good cases have become much easier to find.
