Sold in separate sizes and packaging schemes for the iPad and iPhone/iPod touch, Ten One Design’s Fling ($20-$30) and Fling mini ($25) are joystick peripherals that combine suction cups with flexible hard plastic and rubber joypads that hover above the screen, making contact with it to translate your finger movements to an on-screen virtual joypad. The idea is to more closely replicate the feel of using a console controller, though the Fling units obviously obscure some of the devices’ screens in the process; they are meant to have their suction cups attached on the iPad/iPhone/iPod touch bezels so that they cover as little as possible. Fling and Fling mini work only with games that have one or two on-screen controllers of their own. The iPad version Fling comes one ($20) or two ($30) to a package in your choice of three colors, each with a carrying bag; Fling mini for iPhone and iPod touch comes two to a $25 package with a single carrying bag.
