Hot on the heels of the Steinheil Ultra Crystal and Ultra Fine Screen Protectors, United SGP has released its Steinheil Ultra Optics Screen Protector for iPad 2 ($29). Made with the same “Microlense Array” material as its version for the iPhone 4, the idea of the film is to reduce fingerprints while maintaining brightness and color. The film is perfectly tailored to fit the face of the iPad 2, with cutouts for the front-facing camera and Home Button. Installation was quite easy, with fewer air bubbles than we have seen on previous versions of United SGP’s films. Compared to traditional anti-glare films, Ultra Optics is a little bit more reflective, softening the image on the screen slightly while maintaing color levels better. Just like its iPhone 4 sibling, there is a high-pitched scratching sound whenever you move your finger across the screen. Packed in along with the single piece of film are a cleaning cloth, rubber squeegee, small bottle of screen cleaner, and dust-removing stickers. In the pictures below, Ultra Optics is on the white iPad 2, while the matte-finished Ultra Fine is on the black model.
