Vaja’s Feather Pouch for iPhone 4 and 4S ($90-$110) is pretty much exactly what we’ve come to expect from the Argentinian company: nice materials, a clean design, and a high price. Users can choose from any of several stock color combinations or order a custom handcrafted version in their own choice of colors for a $20 premium and a delay of as many days. Although they’re not exactly the same, comparisons can be made to Beyzacases Zero Series Case.
Made of truly impressive soft leather—customers have the option of either floater leather with a large-grained texture or the flatter plain material—the case enables the iPhone to easily slip in and out as needed; it’s tight enough to hold the iPhone securely without inhibiting removal. The pouch provides complete front and back coverage with the sides enclosed to the point just below the level of the volume buttons and the top left mostly exposed. An elastic strap holds the iPhone in place with a small piece of leather in the center acting as a buffer. At the bottom, a pair of holes on either side allow use of the iPhone’s speaker and microphone even while encased.
As far as sleeves go, Feather Pouch is one of the nicer models on the market. Although the style is quite limited, this one has at least a bit more going for it with good protection and some other thoughtful features. The real kicker here is the price, which is about three times more than Beyzacases charges for its sleeve with admittedly fewer features. In terms of quality though, the cases aren’t that different; a few holes and an elastic band don’t justify a $54 to $74 premium, leaving Feather Pouch with a C+ rating; like so many of Vaja’s cases it is simply too expensive for what it offers.
