We recently received two new batteries from Ventev — Powercell 3015c ($50) and Powercell 6000+ ($75). Powercell 3015c is a small 3000 mAh battery — it’s just slightly larger than a credit card — with a short, built-in Lightning cable for charging. Powercell 6000+ is a different beast. It’s a 6000 mAh dual-output battery with folding AC wall prongs, able to charge two devices at once.
The two outputs recharge at separate speeds — 1A for older iPhones, and at 2.1 for quicker recharging of iPads and newer iPhones.
Powercell 3015c is a well-designed little battery with a shiny gray exterior. Its short Lightning cable tucks away out of sight, and four LEDs denote remaining battery time — a small on/off button can be pressed to show how much power remains. A micro-USB cable is also included for recharging the battery. In our battery test, Powercell 3015c refilled a depleted iPhone 6 in less than 2 hours, and had enough charge left over to deliver 24 percent more of a charge — an impressive 124 percent total in all.
Powercell 6000+ has a matte finish, with the two outputs on the bottom of the battery and the wall prongs in back.
The front of the battery has a power/battery meter button. A depleted iPad Air 2 was recharged 64 percent in just under 4 hours, which isn’t that fast, but it’s solid performance as far as capacity goes. Unfortunately, Powercell 6000+ doesn’t come with a cable of any kind.
We always like a nice wall prong battery here at iLounge — it’s often more convenient than having to carry another cable and wall adapter along, though that’s offset a bit in the case of Powercell 6000+, which doesn’t come with a cable of any kind. The battery pack may not be quite as fast we expected, but otherwise, it performs well.
