The recently rebranded VRS Design is continuing its push into the American market with a number of new iPhone cases. The company’s Crystal Bumper ($33), High Pro Shield ($33), and Verge Active ($33) all still bear the Verus name the company used before rebranding. Crystal Bumper and High Pro Shield are similar cases, both using the style of a soft shell surrounded by a hard plastic bumper. Verge Active is a bit different, as it puts a soft shell inside a harder, outer shell.
The case also comes with a partially rotating magnetic holster clip, if you’re still interested in that sort of thing. All three cases have proper coverage for the sleep/wake button and volume controls.
For whatever reason, companies seem to making more of the “bumper-over-a-soft-shell” style case recently. Crystal Bumper fits into this mold. These cases do generally allow users to show off the back of the phone, but we do have concerns about their long-term reliability.
Crystal Bumper works fine, but, as we’ve seen with similar bumper combination cases, the ringer switch can be tough to access.
High Pro Shield is very similar. Instead of a clear back, though, it has a faux brushed metal back. The case also has an open hole on the back to reveal the iPhone’s Apple symbol — we’ve never been fans of that look. You may prefer High Pro Shield’s look to that of Crystal Bumper, but the ringer switch is hard to reach on either case.
Verge Active offers more rear coverage than the other cases here, and it’s a bit easier to reach the ringer switch, as well.
