In addition to renaming Passbook to the more appropriate name of Wallet, iOS 9 now makes it even easier to access your Apple Pay and other cards while your iPhone is locked. Simply double-tap the home button, and it will come up and be ready to go.
Of course, you’ll still need to authenticate Apple Pay transactions using Touch ID, but the rest of your cards will be readily accessible for scanning without having to unlock your iPhone and open the Wallet app.
This feature is on by default, and almost eliminates the need for location-based Wallet notifications from specific cards.
If you’re concerned about the security of your cards, however, this feature can be switched off in the iOS Settings app, where it can be found in either the Wallet & Apple Pay or Touch ID & Passcode sections. Even with this switched off, you’ll still get the same location-based notifications for cards on the lock screen that you always have, so you can keep the rest of your cards secure while having your Starbucks card ready to go when you’re stopping by for your morning coffee.
