Apple has recently updated their Keyboard Service Program to include the new MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and 2018 MacBooks.
If you have a 2018 MacBook or newer and are experiencing problems with the butterfly mechanism keyboard, i.e., inconsistent response or sticky keys, you may head to the nearest Authorized Apple Store to have it repaired for free.
The Keyboard Service Program applies to all MacBook customers worldwide and those who are within 4 years of their original purchase date, regardless of warranty status. Moving forward, Apple has said that they fixed prior keyboard issues by changing the material that make up the butterfly mechanism.
The 2019 MacBook keyboard design is still labeled under the same keyboard mechanism as the 2018 model. Owners of eligible MacBook Air and 2018 MacBook Pro owners may have their keyboard mechanism changed to the newer material when they bring their laptops in for repair at an Apple Retail Store or mail it to Apple’s Repair Center.
