A Solar Means Business report has declared Apple as the largest solar power in the US for 2018, with Walmart, Google and Amazon falling behind as fourth, sixth and second, respectively. According to the report, the Cupertino-based company is the leading corporate solar procurer, with 400 MW (megawatts) of installed total capacity.
Last year, Apple has announced that its operations are powered by 100 percent renewable energy. Apple CEO Tim Cook has mentioned that the company is committed to creating a better environment and combat climate change by recycling and exploring new and future renewable energy sources.
Solar Energy Industries Association points out that Apple’s data centers are run using renewable energy since 2014 and its renewable energy projects have cut greenhouse gas emissions by about 54%.
Apple Park is the largest LEED-certified corporate building in Northern US, powered by multiple renewable sources, including biogas fuel cells, a rooftop solar installation and a battery storage microgrid.
