The ceramic Apple Watch casing is rumored to be revived by Apple with the upcoming Apple Watch Series 12. Kosutami, a collector of prototypes, posted on X that the ceramic casing will be returning. The ceramic casing was introduced in September 2016 with the Apple Watch Series 2.
Before being discontinued, a white ceramic finish returned in 2019 for the Apple Watch Series 5. The finish was made from compressed alumina powder, and zirconia with a diamond slurry polish was promoted as being 4x harder than stainless steel.
Apple is expected to debut the Apple Watch Series 12 alongside the foldable iPhone, iPhone 18 Pro Max, iPhone 18 Pro, and the new Apple Watch Ultra 4 in September. The watch will have improvements in performance or a new chip with minor upgrades. The option for a ceramic casing is anticipated to be released this year or in 2027.
