Due to shortages in DRAM, Apple is cutting back on their plans for hardware shipment this year. TSMC is rumored to have unpackaged processors worth up to $1 billion as they are waiting on memory chips. Apple has been struggling to secure memory chips as Apple has planned production for processors about 3 months in advance.
The shortage in memory has already affected devices like the MacBook Air, Mac Studio and Mac Mini. The current shortage in supply could expand to the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max. Manufacturers for memory have been putting AI data center makers as their priority due to the contracts being more profitable for them.
The shortage in supply has resulted in the prices soaring sky high with longer waiting times. In June, Apple raised the prices across devices like the iPad and Mac, with the iPhone expected to follow in their release in September.
