Nick Gatten, former vice president of American Airlines, has been hired by Apple to take on the role of vice president of government affairs. He will take on some duties from Katherine Adams, the senior vice president who will be retiring at the end of the year.
Apple felt that Gatten was a Republican whom they could use to align with the Trump Administration while also collaborating with democrats. In the past, he worked in government affairs for American Affairs and JPMorgan Chase.
Given the new role at Apple, he will be working closely with Tim Cook, who will move to an executive chairman role as John Ternus will be taking over as the CEO for Apple on September 1. Cook will interact with worldwide governments and policymakers.
Adams will still be available until the first of October in an advisory role.
