The social network platform Threads has gained a new direct messaging function.
Threads users can now send direct messages to other users, marking the first time this has happened for the Meta-owned social network. The direct messaging ability is limited to mutual followers and followers for those who are at least 18 years old. The company said that positive interactions and safety are prioritized as features like these come out, with more coming in the near future. Some of the upcoming options include inbox filters, group messaging, and message controls.

There’s also a highlighter control for elevating ‘unique perspectives that lead to thoughtful conversations’. It will show as users discover content and will be used to mark trending topics. Direct messaging has been in the testing phase since June and only became available to the public recently. To see the new features, it’s recommended that you download the latest update.
