BOE, a Chinese panel manufacturer, is rumored to want a share of the supply chain for OLED for the upcoming refreshed iPad Air, looking for a role in sourcing just behind the main supplier.
BOE will be using the B12 fab located in Chongqing, the place where the sixth-generation production line for OLED panels is being prepared for the revamped iPad Air that will be released in early 2027.
BOE has not yet passed Apple’s qualification process, with samples rumored to have submitted for evaluation and a verdict still pending. The decision is allegedly to be made by November, just a month or two before the start of mass production.
The manufacturer is also chasing a role as the secondary supplier for the upcoming MacBook Pro with an OLED display, but they are not expected to get into the supply chain until beyond 2028.
