The Limit Precise Location setting has been added by Apple in iOS 26.3, where it reduces the amount of data location that is made available to mobile networks, allowing for better privacy. Mobile networks are able to identify your location with the use of cellular tower information.
The upcoming foldable iPhone and iPhone 18 Pro are expected to use the Apple-made modem and are likely to expand to the entire lineup for the iPhone. Minimizing location precision will not affect the user experience or signal quality and will not affect the location data that will be shown to emergency responders.
