Today, Riot Games has announced that they will be porting the popular League of Legends game to Android and iOS platforms by 2020.
League of Legends: Wild Rift will have the same gameplay as the original, featuring a MOBA, or multiplayer online battle arena genre that’s optimized for smaller screens.
Riot details new maps, twin-stick controls and shorter matches for an enhanced experience. The company stresses that Wild Riot will be completely built from the ground up to ensure a ‘legit LoL experience’. The reveal was made in commemoration of the game’s 10th anniversary.
It looks like Riot is looking to get a slice of the mobile pie. Runaway hits such as PUBG and Fortnite enjoy huge successes, and if Riot wants to stay relevant it will have to adapt and consider mobile gaming. League of Legends has dropped 21% in revenue year over year, while games like Fortnite have brought in $3 billion last year.
