The 2GB GSM Network by T-Mobile is now retired, meaning that the big carriers for the service in the U.S will now be ending their service for 2G. The network was kept active by T-Mobile due to the legacy customers who still use the network.
Individuals who were still using the network were notified before the day of shutdown, giving them time to move to other networks, IoT accessories, smartphones, payment terminals, and alarm panels that use 2G. These will no longer function.
2G support was ended by AT&T back in 2017, with Verizon stopping it in 2020. No carriers in the United States have support for 2G, meaning that the iPhone is no longer able to connect to the network. Technically, the iPhone lost support for cellular connection back in 2017, but T-Mobile kept it alive until now.
