Xiaomi has recently released a digital avatar feature called Mimoji, which looks eerily similar to Apple’s Memoji.
In a press release, the Chinese firm claims that they didn’t copy Apple’s idea, but the company’s advertisement was too close for comfort. A Weibo user discovered that the product page for Mi CC9 showcased the very same Memoji ad, replete with Khalid’s avatar singing “Talk”.

Xu Jieyun, Public Relations Manager mentioned on Weibo that it was an accident and that a staff had uploaded the wrong ad content onto the websites. Both Mimoji and Memoji are 3D avatars that can be customized with similar eyewear, accessories and art style.
Previously, Xiaomi had gained popularity by being caught copying Apple features and products. In 2018, Animojis appeared on the Mi 8, which looked like the iPhone X. In 2019, the Chinese firm released a wireless earphone device that worked just like AirPods.
